The Belfry, an oddities emporium located in downtown Seattle, is offering a taxidermy class to learn to make your own rogue taxidermy items for your next Halloween or Goth tea party.
The classes are offered by Detroit Academy of Taxidermy, which was launched in 2012 with the vision of teaching traditional taxidermy techniques to non-traditional students around the world and now they’re coming to Seattle on September 12th to an oddities emporium near you!
Rogue Taxidermy is a term referring to taxidermy specimens that are ramped up and pimped to create hybrid creatures, perhaps adding pieces from two different animals or bits of odds and ends to create brand new creatures of horror and delight.
The Belfry is located in downtown Seattle at 309A 3rd Ave. S. It is a unique store to the Seattle area, offering a variety of visually interesting items from the mysterious and macabre to the beautiful and intriguing. They specialize in Victorian era mourning pieces, vintage taxidermy, human and animal bones and other items which reflect the fantastic realm of natural history. This is the perfect place to start putting together your kunst cabinet of natural and earthly delights.
The majority of our items are vintage or antique and as a result they may show wear. We will note any damage due to age whenever possible and always do our best to provide the highest quality antique and vintage items we can find.
We understand and appreciate that taxidermy may not appeal to everyone. All of our taxidermy is vintage to the best of our knowledge and we do what we can to prevent the purchase of harvested animals. We feel that taxidermy is a way of giving praise to an animal that would no longer be alive and as animal lovers we feel honored to have these animals adorn our walls. antique and as a result they may show wear.
