Amazing Church and Private Compound in Seattle

Live Work space in seattle

Incredible live/work opportunity in South Seattle

12239 10th Ave S, Seattle 98168

Just South of SODO and a quick 15 minute drive to Downtown Seattle, lies an amazing private church compound on over ½ acre in a lovely and private park-like setting.

Amazing church and private compound located on a secluded near-acre (100’x300′ lot), you get a huge ex-church in excellent condition, a cute 2-bedroom and 1.5 bath vintage house, plus a 2nd art studio and a small “barn” for tools and storage.  All this on a 30,000sqft lot in the middle of the city.

Amazing 2-story artist studio and ex-church with a large parking area, outbuildings & fully fenced. Centrally located, 15 minutes to downtown, easy access to Sea-Tac, Sound Transit, West Seattle, the Eastside, Tacoma, & 509, I-5, 518 & 405. Ideal spot for live/work opportunity (calling all Craftspeople!), church, daycare, and more! Zoned RS7200 for possible future development.

Here are some exterior shots of the church, which was built in 1969 by Lee Maxey, pastor of the Seattle Trinity Chapel, which operated in this location until 1993.

Inside the converted church, artist Andrea Maki has created an incredible art-filled environment, half gallery and half work space, in the 1969 chapel interior. In these next few photos, one can see the incredible breadth of her work.  Here you will find assemblages, paintings, construction, photographic processes and found signage and materials.  While the subject matter is broad, one can’t help to notice the reoccurring themes of wild horses.

While still an artist and involved in art-making, Andrea Maki has also found time to devote her life to the “Wild Horse Project” and in 2010 created her non-profit Wild Love Preserve.

The Seattle Trinity Chapel was built in 1969 by Pastor Lee Maxey.  According to those original plans, the two-story structure features an upstairs main sanctuary of 1800sqft and then a downstairs floor featuring another 1800sqft of classrooms and storage, for a total of 3600sqft.

On the near-acre property is a also a little 1935 cottage, sweet and simple, with 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths and is approximately 1020sqft.

I couldn’t help but photograph a couple of the owners cute vintage collections that are scattered throughout the home.
